What’s up, strangers! I had hoped to do this tag back when the live action Beauty & the Beast movie was released on DVD, but other things got in the way. So instead, I’m doing it now. This tag takes different things from the movie (characters and songs) and forms a question out of them. As I love books, music, and Disney, I thought this tag would be a great one to try. And so, here it is.
- “Tale as Old as Time”– A popular theme, trope, or setting you will never get bored of reading.
The lost queen trope. Everyone and their mother is sick of this trope, but not me. I have always loved this trope and I always will. Maybe I have Anastasia to blame. Who knows? I just really love this trope and hope it never goes away.
- Belle– A book you bought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside too.
It’s kind of cheating since I already knew the contents were beautiful, but I bought the new edition of Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone. For the 20th anniversary of its release, the publisher released a version based on each House and of course I had to get the Slytherin one. I don’t think I’ll use it for reading (I have some really nice reading versions (the UK adult covers)), but it makes a nice collector’s item.
- Beast– A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I didn’t go through the same vampire phase everyone else seemed to. Probably because I didn’t like Twilight and only stanned The Vampire Diaries for about a year. My sister was into this series and kept saying I would like it, but I thought it sounded dumb. Finally, I agreed to at least try the first one. And I wound up really liking it. Nowadays, I think Bloodlines is better, but I still love Vampire Academy. It’s a good series.
- Gaston– A book everyone loves that you don’t.
Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi. Everyone who’s read this book adores it. And I thought it was just okay. And that’s not because it was a middle grade book; I’ve read some really good middle grade books. I just didn’t get attached to the characters and the ending pissed me off. Plus, I’m torn on how I feel as the narrator as a character. In some ways it enhanced the story, but it others it detracted. Overall, I wasn’t really a fan.
- Lefou– A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their protagonist counterpart.
Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. He’s such a nerd and I love how he equates everything to something that happened in Star Wars. Same. He’s also loyal and caring. He spends the series figuring out who he is and what it means to be human. He’s witty and hilarious and I love him to death. I would be honored to be his parabatai.
- Potts, Chip, Lumier, & Cogsworth– A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable.
I know I just talked about this recently, but I’ve got to give another shout out to Virgin by Radhika Sanghani. I related to Ellie so much. It also made me comfortable with the fact I myself was (and still am) a virgin. It was a beautiful (and funny!) story that I really needed at that time in my life and I’m so grateful for it.
- “Something There” – A book or a series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end.
The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. Or, more accurately, Shadow and Bone. It took me a long while to get into this book the first time I read it. It isn’t until Alina started to get the hang of her powers, the book starts getting really good. That’s why I tell everyone who starts the series to stick with it. It gets better. I promise.
- “Be Our Guest” – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner.
I think I have to pick my son Kell Maresh from the Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab. I have to let him know how much he’s love and appreciated. Plus, I mean, he’s my child. I have to feed him.
