Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Wednesday. Itโs each blogger and BookTuberโs job to pick five book-related things (though youโre welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.

Iโm not going to pick any of the obvious choices, no matter how much I love them. Why? Because everyone is going to pick them and I want to spotlight some lesser loved friendships in science fiction and fantasy. So you wonโt find the Dregs, the Golden Trio, the Gangsey, the Rampion Crew, or Heronstairs. We all love those duos, trios, and squads. Today is not about them.
Instead, itโs about these totally wonderful friendships in some of my favorite SFF stories.
1. Nahri and Ali from the Daevabad trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty

Theyโre two nerds who want to fight for equality in Daevabad. I especially love how they actively try not to be friends, but canโt help it. They just get on so well. And they accomplish so much as a duo. They have the most interesting dynamic in the series and I love it.
2. Emma Carstairs and Cristina Rosales from The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare

Okay, so maybe this one is a little obvious. But I really love their friendship because they genuinely love sharing things with each other, whether good or bad. They think about each other when theyโre apart. They deserved to be parabatai.
3. Karou and Zuzana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I mean, Zuzana literally travels to another world to be with and help Karou. Thereโs no reason a human should be involved in a centuries-long war between chimaera and seraphim, but that doesnโt stop Zuzana. And Karou does whatever she can to make sure Zuzana stays safe. Also, they have amazing inside jokes. I love this quirky duo.
4. Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir from Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

This is another one that may be a little obvious. Or, I guess it wouldโve been in 2013. Now, not so much. But I genuinely donโt think Iโve ever seen a stronger female friendship. Rose constantly puts Lissa first and Lissa is always there for Rose. I donโt think either of them love anyone more than each other, not even Christian and Dimitri. We love life-long friends who also wouldโve been an incredible power couple!
5. Crowley and Aziraphale from Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman

Talk about an unlikely friendship! A demon and an angel? Who just, like, go out for dinner and stuff? Who enjoy each otherโs company and are even able to see eye-to-eye? These two really have it all. Also, theyโre hilarious together. And may or may not have banged at some point.
What are some of your favorite SFF friendships? Tell me about them in the comments!
