Spooky season is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited. In the spirit of fall and Halloween, I thought I’d do a fall-themed tag. It was created by Madi of The Book Pusher on YouTube.

A lot of people hated this finale, but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was well foreshadowed and executed. It’s clever and bittersweet. But there’s no accounting for taste, I guess.

The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu

I’d thought this book took place after The Dark Artifices and would be a new adventure bridging the gap between TDA and The Wicked Powers. Color me surprised when I realized the story took place during City of Fallen Angels and has no stakes whatsoever. It wasn’t a bad book and was certainly worth reading, but I was expecting something more.

6. Sephora Sage & Crystal Set: A book that means well but missed the mark by a landslide

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

This book aims to be a YA horror modeled after Annihilation and Lord of the Flies, but is instead a mediocre imitation. It completely misunderstands what was good about those books. I was hoping for something akin to Sawkill Girls, but it wasn’t even that. Even the F/F romance I was excited for was a letdown. I get why Sapphics cling to this book, but it doesn’t live up to the hype.
