Hey, Strangers! I was just sitting around and decided to create my own original book tag! When deciding the connecting theme, I said to myself, “Why not my wife?” (as long as I’m single, I reserve the right to call her this). In all seriousness, Demi means as much to me as books do, so I figure they go pretty well together. And without further ado, I present to you the Demi Lovato book tag!
- Get Back: A book you keep coming back to, even if it hurts you.
Every year I reread The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. It destroys me every time, but I still love it anyway with all my heart.
- Two Worlds Collide: Two books with characters you’d love to see interact.
The characters from the Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab and the characters from the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo. First of all, Kaz and Lila would be an unstoppable team. Second of all, both Inej and Lila are gonna be “pirates” and they’re bringing their boyfriends and it would be cool if they met up. The unbelievable flirting team of Jesper, Nina, Rhy, and Alucard would be amazing. And, honestly, I’d like to see how Kell would react to these hooligans.
- Don’t Forget: A reading experience you’ll never forget.
Honestly, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas. I anticipated the hell out of that book. It was the first book I paid extra to get same-day shipping for. And I really loved it that first time. I was sneakily reading it when we went out to dinner. I devoured it. I was so shook. Not to mention, there was so much upheaval in the fandom at the time. Unfortunately, the book didn’t hold up on reread and I no longer care for it. But that first time was a frickin’ whirlwind.
- Here We Go Again: A book with a plot that seems eerily familiar.
Playlist of the Dead by Michelle Falkoff. Now, I haven’t actually read this book, but I looked at the summary and it’s about a boy who commits suicide but leaves behind a playlist as a suicide note and his friend listens to it to find out why he killed himself. Now where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, from the now ten-year old and super-popular book Thirteen Reason Why by Jay Asher. Interesting…
- Skyscraper: A book that got you through a difficult time.
Harry Potter by JK Rowling. That series got me through high school. It was my go-to escape from the awfulness and gave me a veneer to hide behind. I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through ninth and tenth grade without it.
- Give Your Heart a Break: Favorite light, fluffy read.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. Yes, this book is ableist, but before I found out it was (because I genuinely did not pick up on it) I thought it was really sweet. I read it in a few hours too. (I did have to reduce my overall rating on Goodreads though because of the ableism.)
- Heart Attack: A book with a shocking twist.
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. That twist messed me up. I honestly didn’t see it coming at all. I kind of want to reread it to see what I missed.
- Something That We’re Not: A book with a misleading summary.
We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson. The summary made it seem like aliens would be a bigger issue and that we’d get gays in space (while also dealing with real, earthly things). It really colored my reading experience.
- Really Don’t Care: A book series you’re no longer interested in.
Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes. I was super into this series last year, but I started stanning it less and less as the year went on. Crystal Storm was a big letdown. I’m going to read the last book, but I don’t know when.
- Cool for the Summer: Favorite F/F romance.
Denna and Mare from Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst. I thought the book as a whole was just okay (the world-building wasn’t very good and the plot was predictable), but I loved this romance. It was such a slow burn and was soft and adorable. I loved watching them fall in love. I wish we’d get more from them, but I don’t think Coulthurst is planning one.
- No Promises: A book you recommend to everyone.
The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis. This book is So. Good. I am still shook eight months later.
- Waitin’ for You: A book you’re anticipating.
Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. While not based on the story of Mulan, it has some similar elements and I freaking love Mulan-esque things. Plus, I loved her The Wrath and the Dawn duology. Her writing is just lovely.
