Hey, Strangers! Long time, no see! For my first post back from my vacation, I thought I’d do a short tag and this one seemed perfect. It’s all about books you just don’t think you’ll ever read. Of course, nothing is definite, but it doesn’t look good for them now. I actually have some fresh answers for this tag and am really excited to share them with you, so let’s get on with the show!
- A really hyped book you’re not interested in reading?
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I’ve heard mixed things about this book (which now has a sequel coming out), but I’ve never had any interest in this. It’s about sisters fighting each other to the death for the crown. I understand they were all raised separately and therefore don’t know each other, but sister relationships just mean so much to me that I still can’t bear it. I will not be trying this series.
2. A series you won’t start/won’t be finishing?
I’m going to answer both because why not? A series I don’t plan on ever starting is the Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter. I hear it’s good, but the titles and covers are just embarrassing. I’m a grown-ass woman. I can’t read something like that. Besides, I’m over high school drama as a whole, and this is a series about spies in high school, so. A series I won’t be finishing is the Girl at Midnight series by Melissa Grey. I really wanted to like this book. I discovered the writer on Twitter around when the live-action Cinderella came out. She wrote a series of tweets about how Cinderella was an accurate portrayal of an abuse survivor, which was a perspective I’d never considered before. I found out she was releasing a book starring a pickpocket named Echo with unique magical creatures and just had to check it out. But it was average at best. I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters or ships and didn’t really care for the Avicen species. I was really disappointed and won’t be continuing on.
3. A classic that you’re just not interested in?
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I’ve heard it’s better than the movie, but I still can’t stand Scarlett O’Hara. She’s one of the most irritating characters I’ve ever watched. She’s selfish and stuck-up. Oh yeah, and she’s pro-slavery. That’s almost a given since she was a Southern Belle on a large plantation during the Civil War, but still. That’s never going to warm me to your character. So I don’t want to slog through the book when I’ve never even been able to finish the movie.
4. Any genres you never read?
I read pretty much every genre at least a little, but I guess I’ll have to go with dime store romances. You know the ones. I’ll try pretty much any genre but that.
5. A book(s) on your shelves you’ll probably never actually read?
The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I know I should read them and think they’re probably very good, but they’ve been on my shelves for three or four years and I’ve never been in the mood to read them. I feel guilty because they seem like important books, but I just don’t foresee getting to them. At least not any time soon.
And there you have it! Those are the books I’m probably never going to get to. I feel bad about a couple, but most of them I don’t. Some books just aren’t for everyone or don’t catch your fancy. Do you have any answers for any of these questions? Let me know in the comments!
Catch you on the flip side, Strangers!
