Well, it’s officially the last week of free choice Top 5 Wednesday. As much as I loved picking my own topics, I’m excited to see what new topics the moderators will come up with for next month. But before we get to that, we have to do this week’s post. Today I chose my top five side characters I think deserve their own series. I’m going a little outside the box with this one, so buckle your seatbelts. Just kidding— it’s not that exciting. Anyway… here’s the post:
- Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter by JK Rowling:

Ginny Weasley is such a bad bitch, I’d honestly read another seven-book series about her years at Hogwarts. I’d love to see the events of Chamber of Secrets from her point-of-view and to get more details on her sixth year. I also want to see her date Luna, which she totally did. All that said, I don’t want JKR to write any more Harry Potter material. She just keeps fucking it up. As much as Ginny deserves it, I hope JKR doesn’t write any books about her.
- Raffin (and Bann!) from Graceling by Kristin Cashore:

Raffin and Bann, the prince and his right hand man— a duo for the ages! I’d love a story focusing on something they’ve accomplished in Raffin’s work room, maybe leading up to his ascent as king. Not only that, but these two are canonically in love. I really want their relationship explored. If Kirstin ever expands upon any of her Graceling Realms characters, please let it be these two.
- Eliza and Scarab from Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor:

Despite only appearing in the final book of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, I fell in love with these two. Scarab is the Stelian queen and she’s ruthless as hell. I don’t want to spoil Eliza’s story, but it’s monumental. Laini ended the story with possible seeds planted for a follow-up series. Should that series ever happen, I want these two to be the (god) stars.
- Morrigan from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas:

I’ve loved Mor ever since we first meet her in A Court of Mist and Fury and would die for a story surrounding her. She is my soft lesbian daughter and I would kill for her. In fact, if we could get the story of her and Andromache, that would be great. All that said… I don’t really trust SJM to write this. She’s already proven to be… messy when writing queer characters (in fact, apparently in A Court of Frost and Starlight she implies that Mor only likes women because she was hurt by men in the past) and I really don’t want to see her mess up someone I resonate so deeply with. But, I’m also a weak bitch and, if she did write a book about Mor, I would almost certainly read it.
- Lando Calrissian from Star Wars:
Talk about a smooth operator. A movie about Lando’s adventures would be fantastic. Or even a comic series. That sly motherfucker deserves it. By the way, please don’t post Solo spoilers. I haven’t seen it yet.
Who are some side characters you think deserve their own series? Tell me about them in the comments!
I love this list! A book about Scarab and Eliza would be wonderful! I love them both and the world of DoSaB so much 💕 A book all about Mor would be amazing too!
