Book Meme: WWW Wednesday #2

Blog Updates

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam of Taking on a World of Words. It’s basically a fun way to update your readers on your current reading. The questions are based on the Three Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

This month I’m participating in #FFFeb and Blackathon. Well, sort of. As I’ve said many a time, I’m a mood reader. Therefore, I only guarantee I’ll be reading at least one F/F romance and at least one book by a black author. If I’m unable to read more, well, there’s always the entire rest of the year. I will not be restricted!

Anyway, here’s what my reading’s been looking like lately.

Currently Reading
The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite

This is the book that completely changed my perspective on the romance genre. You have to find relationships you can relate to, otherwise it won’t appeal to you. For me, that means F/F relationships. If there’s a man involved, I don’t want it.

As for this book specifically, I’m really enjoying it. It’s a historical romance with some feminist commentary. Mostly though, I just really love Lucy and Catherine. I can’t wait to get to their happily ever after.

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

I’m not quite as far into this one, but it’s a book that’s been on my physical TBR for a while. I’m liking it so far, and suspect it’ll be the series I fall in love with this year. Hell, maybe I’ll fall in love with Jemisin as a writer and not just this particular series.

After seeing it make so many people’s best lists in 2019, I knew I had to read it soon. Black History Month seemed like the perfect time to finally dive into this world. I’m excited to get further into it and become a fan.

Recently Finished
Uzumaki by Junji Ito

That’s right, the first manga I ever read was a horror manga. But I have no regrets because it was awesome. I never knew something as mundane as a spiral could cause so much terror. I’ve already bought two more of Ito’s most famous horror mangas and I’m so excited to read them!

Reading Next
The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood

I’ve been excited for this book ever since I saw it on Netgalley and restrained myself from requesting it. And hey, it counts for #FFFeb because the author is Sapphic and (I believe) the main character has a romance with another woman. Sign me TF up!

What have you been reading lately? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’ve heard such wonderful things about The Fifth Season, and I really need to pick it up, too. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying it! I just finished The Unspoken Name, and while I didn’t love it, I do seem to be in the minority. I hope you end up loving it. happy reading!

    Here’s my WWW post.

    1. Oof, I feel that. It always sucks being in the minority in disliking a book because you read a different version than everyone else.

  3. I DNF’d the audiobook of The Fifth Season, but I’ve heard only good things about it so I’m definitely hoping to give it another chance in a print (probably ebook) format! currently I’m finishing up Loveboat, Taipei and The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour.

    1. I was definitely a bit confused at first, but I put that down to my lack of braincells because N.K. Jemisin is a genius. Once it clicked, I flew through the book.

  4. […] was… not a lot. Seriously, I’m struggling to not make this wrap-up a repeat of my last WWW Wednesday post. Because the books on that post are the only ones I read and I haven’t even finished one of […]
