Favorite Friday: Canon F/F Ships

Blog Updates

Favorite Friday is a feature in which I discuss some of my favorite things. Some Fridays it’ll be based on a topic, while others it’ll just be about some of my recent favorites.

It’s Valentine’s Day, so I thought it would be fun to discuss my favorite canon F/F ships. I had to restrict myself to canon, otherwise we’d be here all day. Why am I focusing on F/F ships? Because I’m gay, that’s why.

From books to TV and beyond, here are my favorite canon F/F ships.

  1. Laura and Carmilla (Carmilla)

You can have your Edward and Bella, your Elena and Stefan/Damon, your Rose and Dimitri. I’ve got Laura and Carmilla. The level of devotion these two have for each other is unparalleled. Every day I think about rewatching this web series. Perhaps someday soon I will.

  1. Héloïse and Marianne (Portrait of a Lady on Fire)

Oh, to be a French painter falling in love with a former nun in her mother’s seaside mansion. I’ve never seen a more beautiful lesbian love story on film. And yes, this is a case where I’m firmly on Team Subtitles.

  1. Mia and Ashlinn (The Nevernight Chronicle)

These two surprised me mainly because I didn’t even know there was a F/F relationship in this series. I love how Ashlinn works to regain Mia’s trust, ultimately willing to do whatever it takes to protect her. I love how Mia learns to forgive through her love for Ashlinn. They deserve the world.

  1. Red and Blue (This is How You Love the Time War)

Have you ever traveled through time and changed the past just so you can live happily ever after to the woman you’ve been writing letters to for years? No? Then you’re not in love. I’m sorry you had to find out this way.

  1. Helen and Aline (The Shadowhunter Chronicles)

Imagine loving someone so much you leave everything behind when they’re banished (wrongfully, I might add). The fact that Cassandra Clare is never going to give us content for these two is criminal. This is the faerie ship everyone should be stanning.

  1. Evelyn and Celia (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo)

Evelyn literally chips her tooth kissing the TV while Celia is giving her acceptance speech for her Oscar. They have a family together. Celia makes Evelyn want to be a better person. I’m so glad they get their happy ending, even if they don’t get to share it with the world.

  1. Kelly and Yorkie (Black Mirror: San Junipero)

This episode of Black Mirror became my entire identity for a while after I watched it. These two women find each other randomly in cyberspace and then live their afterlives in virtual reality together. Heaven is a place on Earth, indeed.

  1. Lucy and Catherine (The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics)

I just finished this book last night and these two have me so giddy. They’re so supportive of each other. These two damaged women learn to overcome their painful pasts and value themselves through their love for each other. This book single-handedly changed my mind about the romance genre.

  1. Brittany and Santana (Glee)

This was the first canon F/F relationship I ever loved. That means that, even though my love of Glee has died down, they still have a special place in my heart.

What are some of your favorite canon F/F ships? What favorites should I share next Favorite Friday? Let me know in the comments! Happy Valentine’s Day!
