Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Tuesday hosted by Shanah of Bionic Book Worm. It’s each blogger’s job to pick five book-related things (though you’re welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.
Today’s topic is series you want to start. There are so many series I’d like to get into. Like, so many. Sadly, there’s not enough time to get to them all right away. But today I’ve collected five series I’ve been interested in reading for a while that I’d love to start sometime this year, if possible. And here they are!
I’m a Jemisin newbie, but I’m already a fan. I’m not even sure what this series is about, I just know I need to read it. I’m planning on making this the Year of Jemisin, so hopefully after I finish the Broken Earth trilogy I can start this bad boy.
This series has been pitched to me as “magical assassin nuns” and, I don’t know about you, but I think that sounds incredible. I’ve had the first book, Red Sister, on my Kindle for a while but haven’t read it yet because… well, I often forget about the books on my Kindle. Out of sight, out of mind. But I’m hoping to change that soon, especially since Lawrence has already started a spin-off for this series.
I’ve been hearing about this graphic novel series for years and everything I’ve heard has been overwhelmingly positive. I know it’s a space opera and a star-crossed romance. The art style looks beautiful. I think this year may be the year I finally start this sci-fi epic.
Thrawn is a popular character from old Star Wars canon who’s been brought into new canon via his own book series. Based on said popularity, I’ve become highly intrigued in finding out more about him. Plus, he’s a blue alien who works for the Imperials. That sounds dope as hell!
This series is another weird one, in that I bought the second book in the series without realizing it’s technically a sequel. The Band is a companion series, but the author says it’s better to read the series in order. I’ve heard the series is good, so I definitely want to read it. Oh, who am I kidding? The real draw for me is that the protagonist of the second book is a lesbian. I am nothing if not predictable.
Have you read any of these series? What are some series you want to start? Let’s discuss in the comments!
Have you read Throne of Glass or A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas? They are oh so good!

I’ve read ACOTAR 1-3 and TOG up through Queen of Shadows and I used to love them, but when I reread I realized I didn’t like them as much. Now, a few years later, I’ve determined SJM’s writing just isn’t for me. I totally get the hype though.
