Book Meme: WWW Wednesday #3

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam of Taking on a World of Words. It’s basically a fun way to update your readers on your current reading. The questions are based on the Three Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

I meant to make this a monthly meme, but I haven’t done it since February. I thought I’d resurrect it because why not? It’s a simply way to talk about the books I’m reading and you guy don’t have to wait until my wrap-ups to hear my thoughts.

It’s Pride Month, so I’ll be reading queer books all June. At first I was going to focus on F/F stories, but I think I’m going to branch out instead. Anyway, happy Pride!

Currently Reading

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

I’m about 24% into this book and it’s pretty good so far. It’s pretty standard YA, but good standard YA. I’m excited to see the F/F romance get under way. I do just want to warn you if you’re interested in checking this out that there are hella trigger warnings for sexual assault. The characters in this book are concubines. In fact, discussing sexual assault is a large part of Ngan’s goal in telling this story. So, bear that in mind.

Recently Finished

The Deep by Rivers Solomon

This is a novella based on a song of the same name by clipping. It follows the wajinru, merfolk-esque beings who are the descendants of pregnant African women thrown off of slave ships. It’s a powerful story about generational trauma. Solomon is non-binary and there is a budding F/F romance. I definitely recommend reading this book and listening to the song.

Reading Next

Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner

I literally just found out about this book and then saw it at the bookstore. It’s a F/F romance between a Hollywood starlet and her assistant. I’ve heard mixed things, but I still want to give it a try because I’m looking for a romance novel akin to Red, White, & Royal Blue but about women.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

I’ve read a book by TJ Klune before and really enjoyed it. His latest release, however, I’ve heard nothing but fantastic things about. It’s a M/M romance and has been compared to the Wayward Children series and The Umbrella Academy. I have a feeling it’s going to become a new favorite.
