Book Meme: WWW Wednesday (#4)

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam of Taking on a World of Words. It’s basically a fun way to update your readers on your current reading. The questions are based on the Three Ws:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

I started this book back in June, but set it aside in favor of other books. But now, in my post-season 2 The Umbrella Academy hangover, I’m craving something similar. This book has been compared to TUA and Wayward Children by Seanan McGuire, and those comparisons are definitely apt. I’m only a few chapters in, but House is really hitting the spot so far.

Recently Finished
The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

This novel is a brilliant exploration of racism, colorism, family, and identity. It tackles the complexities of race as a social construct as well as a reality, allowing the reader to ponder what race really means. I also just really love the interpersonal relationships here, namely Jude and Reese, Jude and Desiree, and Desiree and Early. The Vanishing Half is definitely worth the read!

Reading Next
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

After the Reading Rush debacle (where this was their one group book, a book by a Black woman, and no one read it and they hardly publicized that there even was a group book), I knew I had to read this book. Besides, I feel it’s important to read stories about characters with experiences unlike yours. I’ve heard nothing but good things, so I’m pretty excited to start this one. Plus, I love the cover!

What have you been reading lately? Let me know in the comments!
