Top 5 Tuesday: Favorite Characters (K through O)

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Tuesday hosted by Meeghan of Meeghan Reads. It’s each blogger’s job to pick five book-related things (though you’re welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.

September is a theme month for Top 5 Tuesday! This month’s theme is favorite characters from A to Z. Each week, each blogger needs to name some of their favorite characters in alphabetical order. This week is for characters whose names start with a letter from K through O.

Kell Maresh

Kell is my firstborn son, my golden child who can do no wrong. Yes, he causes a bunch of chaos by smuggling objects between worlds. But he fixes his mistakes and gets no love for it. He’s also very petty and funny, especially when it comes to his frenemy-ship with Alucard. Kell is loyal to those he loves and so, so talented with magic. I would move heaven and earth to make this boy happy. Lord knows V.E. Schwab put him through enough in Shades of Magic.

Linus Baker

Linus is the kind of character who sneaks up on you. A chubby forty-something who’s a stickler for rules isn’t usually the kind of character I gravitate towards. But he has such a big heart and his development in The House in the Cerulean Sea is to die for. His love for these kids warms my cold, dead heart. And the romance between Linus and Arthur? So sweet! Linus is proof that first impressions can be deceiving because he is definitely someone you want in your corner.

Mia Corvere

You all know I love me a stabby girl and Mia is the stabbiest of them all. The Nevernight Chronicle is all about her journey to vengeance against the men she holds responsible for destroying her family and I rooted for her every step of the way. However, Mia doesn’t have a one-track mind; she’s happy to help out the underdogs and make them her allies. Also, her shadow powers are dope as hell! Mia Corvere could viciously murder me and my ghost would thank her.

Nahri e-Nahid

From con artist to renowned healer, Nahri from the Daevabad trilogy was seemingly created for me. Nahri is cunning, but compassionate. She’s willing to plot and make sacrifices for the greater good or simply to protect herself. And she doesn’t take shit from anyone. I love her so much and would gladly be her patient any day.

Oliver Marks

Though in-universe Oliver is considered the most unremarkable out of his peers, this If We Were Villains character is the most memorable to me. Oliver is driven by his heart, even in the face of literal, actual murder. He’s what the kids call a bicon, being both bisexual and an icon. Oliver doesn’t “no homo” his way out of his feelings for James— he embraces the homoeroticism of their friendship with open arms. Real-life men could learn a thing or two from this absolute legend.
