Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Tuesday hosted by Meeghan of Meeghan Reads. It’s each blogger’s job to pick five book-related things (though you’re welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.
September is a theme month for Top 5 Tuesday! This month’s theme is favorite characters from A to Z. Each week, each blogger needs to name some of their favorite characters in alphabetical order. This week is for characters whose names start with a letter from U through Z.
While Top 5 Tuesday is typically a book meme, this month I may be branching out to discuss some of my other favorite characters because, well, it’s my blog and I can do what I want. So there.
Uncle Iroh

Is this cheating? Probably. But once again, I do not care.
Iroh is the wise old uncle we all wish we had. I would say he’s the heart of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but Aang is also the heart so… we’ll call it a tie! His unwavering love for Zuko is so heartwarming and pure. Iroh is the father figure we all deserve.
Victor Vale

I had to make room on one of these lists for one of my favorite villains. Victor is intelligent and ruthless on his quest for vengeance. He’s got a secret soft side, though he’d never admit it. It’s obvious in the way he cares about Mitch and Sydney. I can’t wait to see what he does in the third (and presumably final) Villains book.
Will Herondale

I mean, who else was I going to pick? I had to pick my favorite Herondale, the troubled boy with a heart of gold from The Infernal Devices. He’s absolutely hilarious and loves deeper than any character I’ve ever encountered. I love watching him slowly let people back into his life and heart. Where would we be without William Herondale?
X-23 AKA Laura Kinney

Okay, so Laura is more of a character I want to like. I really want to get more into X-Men, but it’s daunting. That said, I have read one comic where the heir apparent to Wolverine is the star and thought it was fun. She’s tough, saving humanity despite the trauma they’ve caused her. In that way, perhaps she encapsulates the X-Men best of them all.
Yeva

Yeva has long been my favorite interpretation of the Beauty character from “Beauty & the Beast.” In fact, Hunted is my favorite retelling of the fairy tale. Yeva is a hunter, not out of necessity, but because she enjoys hunting with her father. She falls for the Beast, but not until he starts treating her with respect and decency. She’s such a cool character and I wish more people appreciated her.
Zoya Nazyalensky

Have I already used the “This character is a bitch and I like her so much” joke for this series? Who cares, I’m doing it again! Zoya isn’t a girl filled with warm and fuzzy feelings. She knows she’s beautiful and talented and she isn’t going to pretend otherwise. Zoya isn’t here to make friends; she’s here to get shit done and save the Grishaverse. But I’d be her friend anyway.
Who are some of your favorite characters whose names start with a letter between U and Z? Let me know in the comments!

Victor also made it onto my list haha! Great list!

Haha, he’s definitely one of the few I knew I’d use all month. Thanks!
