We’ve only got a week left of spooky season, so I figured I’d do a Halloween-themed book tag! This tag was created by Shelby Masako. I’ve had these questions saved on a Google Drive document for a year, so I’m super glad I saved a link to her video because I could not find it. Anyway, let’s get spooky!
What Goes Bump in the Night?: Name a book that legitimately scared you while reading it
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Not only is High House scary, but the men are scary too. The things Howard and Virgil do… *shudders*.
Jack o’Lanterns & Classic Costumes: A book you always reach for during Halloween time
The Merciless by Danielle Vega

This series is like a horror B-movie in book form and I love to dive back into that trashiness when spooky season arrives.
Black Cats & Magic Mirrors: A book you love that is laced with superstition and/or magic
The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

There is a literal, actual curse on the town of Bethel cast by dead witches. And the people of Bethel are Puritans. That means this book is laced with superstition and magic!
Witch’s Brew: Favorite witch character in any book/series
Elphaba Thropp

I love her in the Wicked novel and the musical. She’s smart and uncompromising in her values. In the book, she’s a bit more complicated and mean but still lovable. At least, to me.
Ghouls & Ghosts: A book that still haunts you to this day (good or bad)
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

If you’ve read this book, you know the exact chapter I’m talking about. Absolutely gruesome.
Haunted Graveyard: You’re all alone in a haunted graveyard; you get one book to give you comfort. Which is it?
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

This was one of the most wholesome books I’ve read in a long time. It’s centered around the cutest found family in the most whimsical setting. Even in the scariest, most haunted graveyard, I would feel safe and warm reading this book.
The Undead: Favorite supernatural creatures to read about
Vampires

I am a simple gay. You give me a vampire, I am happy.
In the Dead of Night: Pick a book with a black cover
Uzumaki by Junji Ito
