Greetings, Strangers! As you may have gathered by now, I am a godless heathen. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I’m a pretty good person for the most part. And, while I don’t believe in God, I also don’t not believe in God. While I lean towards believing in the karmic forces of the universe, I actually find comfort in admitting I don’t know the answer to the God Question. I don’t believe in anything in the Bible, but I haven’t shut anything else out. Still, I, along with pretty much every other human, has committed pretty much every single one of the seven deadly sins. As far as I’m concerned, that’s just part of being human. And that’s where this tag comes in. It takes each aforementioned sin and creates a question out of them. And so, before I start getting philosophical again, here are my responses:
- Greed: What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book?
I’m pretty sure I’ve ordered books from Amazon for a penny. I don’t remember which ones, but I know I’ve gotten some book from them super cheap. Most expensive… probably the Hamiltome by Lin-Manuel Miranda (I know that’s not the real title but I don’t care). I actually got it at a discount, but it was still almost forty dollars. Not. Cheap.
- Wrath: What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
Cassandra Clare. I love her books with all my heart, but as a person… let’s just say too much shit has gone down for me to dig her as a person. So basically, I love the books, but I’m not crazy about her.
- Gluttony: What book have you devoured over and over again with no shame?
Did you mean: Harry Potter? I mean, come on. I’ve been reading those books since I was eight. My original copies fell apart, I read them so much. And I feel zero shame whatsoever.
- Sloth: What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
The Round House by Louise Erdrich. I love Erdrich’s writing. She’s an OwnVoices writer, writing about issues affecting the Ojibwe people. I’ve wanted to read this book for a while, but there’s just so many words on each page and I know the topic is heavy. I’m just not sure I’m up for reading all that just yet. I feel guilty about it, but I know I’ll get to it eventually.
- Pride: What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Mostly because I like telling people it’s not the romance it’s been purported to be. It makes it sound like I’ve actually studied it (which I have).
- Lust: What attributes do you find attractive in male and/or female characters?
Nerds with hearts of gold. But also devious, ruthless bastards. So either the very pure or the corrupted as hell. There is no in between.
- Envy: What book would you most like to receive as a gift?
Right now? The new edition of Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. Let me go on a rant here. A few weeks ago, I ordered all three books in the series from Amazon because the publisher released sexy new covers. The second two books came with the correct covers, but the first one did not. So I told Amazon and they sent me a new one for free, as long as I mailed back the original (at their expense). I even made a note explaining the exact edition I was ordering. They sent me the wrong copy again. So, I reported it again. This time I was only given the option of a refund, plus being able to return the second copy at their expense. I switched to Barnes & Noble. They too sent me the wrong cover. I am now mailing it back for a refund. Both websites advertise the new cover. And yet they don’t send them. I refuse to buy the book again until I physically see it in a book store so I know I’m getting the right edition. And now my Grisha trilogy books don’t match.
