Top 5 Wednesday: Characters I’d Cosplay

It’s Wednesday, my dudes. That means it’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday post! This week’s topic? Our favorite villains! …The problem is I did this topic a couple months ago when we got to pick old topics from the archives. Sure, I could probably come up with some more villains I love, and I did consider doing that. But then I saw the topic for October 31st: characters you would cosplay. And, it occurred to me, I’ll be out of town that week. I probably won’t be posting at all, let alone taking time out of my vacation to write a T5W post (I’m going to Vegas— woot, woot!). So, I figure, why not do that post this week instead? And I shall!

Before I get into this, allow me to define cosplaying for the less-informed. Cosplay is essentially dressing up as a character with as much detail as you can get. Many cosplayers make their own costumes, but it’s not required. However, more than that, cosplay also involves a bit of light roleplaying. You engage as the character would. You don’t have to fully become the character, but you can. It’s basically the nerd’s answer to: “Why can’t it be Halloween all the time?”

But what characters (not limited to books) would I cosplay as? Well, my chickadees, I’ll tell you:

1. Carmilla Karnstein from Carmilla (Web Series)

Carmilla is simultaneously everything I want to be and everything I am. Seriously, I’ve never been so kin with a character before. Not only do I love her aesthetic, but I relate to her so hard. She’s snarky and broody, but will also do anything for those she loves (and there aren’t many people who fit that bill). I don’t know whether I want to be her or be with her. Given how much I channel Carmilla on a daily basis, I should probably be with a Laura. But anyway, the day I finally get to cosplay as Carmilla Karnstein is the day I can die.

2. Darth Vader from Star Wars

Is this weird? Maybe, but I don’t care. I dressed up as Vader for Halloween a couple years ago and felt like such a bad bitch. Imagine how I’d feel if I got to fully cosplay as the Sith Lord himself.

3. Marcella Riggins from Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

I mean, if you’re going to cosplay, why not be a badass villain? Marcella is all ambition and no fucks. And I love her. If I could be her for just a few hours, well, that would be just a-okay.

4. Bummer Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I mean, don’t we all kind of want to be her? Even if just for a day?

5. A Slytherin Original Character (Inspired by Harry Potter by JK Rowling)

As if I’m going to pass up the opportunity to pretend I’m an actual Hogwarts student? An actual Slytherin? But I don’t want to be an existing character— I’m an OC (self-insert, obvs) or I’m no one at all.
