New year, new meme! Favorite Friday is a brand new meme in which I discuss some of my favorite things. Some Fridays it’ll be based on a topic, while other it’ll just be about some of my recent favorites.
This week I’m kicking things off with my favorite villainesses. A few you may expect to appear, well, won’t. But that’s only because I haven’t seen or read whatever it is they’re from. But these ladies? These I know. These ladies are finger-lickin’ evil.
- Marcella Morgan Riggins from Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

A badass former mob wife hell-bent on destroying her enemies and taking over the town? I want Marcella to step on me now.
- Shego from Kim Possible
Not only is Shego fiesty, but she’s canonically a better villain than Dr. Drakken. Remember, in one version of the future, she was the one who succeeded in taking over the world. Also her green magic is cool as hell.
- Glory from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Glory is hands down one of the most difficult Big Bads Buffy and the Scooby Gang have to defeat. She is merciless and nearly invincible. She made me genuinely afraid for our heroes.
- Queen Levana Blackburn from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Levana is the perfect example of the old adage: the villain is the hero of their own story. Yes, she’s driven by vanity and her methods are cruel. But she genuinely cares about Luna and wants her kingdom to thrive. She is also nearly impossible to beat.
- Seelie Queen from The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

Though her status as a definite villain is dubious, the Seelie Queen still does everything she does with only the Seelie in mind. She will find whatever loophole she can in order to get out of deals and regularly betrays the Shadowhunters. She’s devious and terrifying.
- Adelina Amouteru from The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Adelina’s story of revenge culminates with her taking over as queen. She’s vicious and hard. Her gift for illusions is fascinating. The White Wolf is a force to be reckoned with and, technically speaking, is never defeated.
- Red Queen from The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
Another villain who seems impossible to overcome. The Red Queen of Mortmesne is especially terrifying because we read from her point-of-view and see how human she really is. She’s proof that any of us could become a villain if we take the wrong path.
- Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter by JK Rowling
Talk about a balls-to-the-wall crazy villainess! Bellatrix is a prime example of chaotic evil and I love it.
- Harley Quinn from DC Comics
Here we’ve got another crazy, albeit in a different way. Harley is both childlike and mature, vapid and introspective. She’s a conundrum with a bat and I wouldn’t have her any other way.
- Regina George from Mean Girls
She isn’t just a mean girl— she’s a bad bitch. In the words of Janice Ian, “She’s a life ruiner. She ruins lives.”
- Amy Dunne from Gone Girl
Amy Dunne is a grade-A psychopath. She fakes her death and frames her husband for murder, all because he cheated on her. Divorce? Who’s that? When Plan A fails, she pretends she was kidnapped by a former flame and stages her grand rescue. She is an absolute nightmare and a tiny, microscopic part of me idolizes her.
Who are some of your favorite villainesses? Tell me about them in the comments!

I had an even longer list, but I had to narrow it down to my most favorites to save myself from writing a 20+ character list lol. Maybe someday I’ll post a sequel.
And yay! I’m so glad I convinced you to check out those books! IDK if you know, but Vengeful is the sequel to Vicious. But not to worry, Vicious is also really good. It just doesn’t have Marcella.

Love this! 😀 So many amazing vilenesses! (that’s a hard word to spell…) Marcella is so amazing, and I completely understand having a tiny part of you that idolizes Amy Dunne even though she’s terrible, because…same 😂
