Why Victor Vale is a Slytherin

When one thinks of Slytherin characters, Victor Vale is usually one of the first characters we think of. His entire personality is outsmarting others and staying ten steps ahead of everyone. He’s also selectively loyal— only protecting those who protect him. He knows just what to say to get under someone’s skin. He is, in essence, the epitome of Slytherin.
Victor spends the entire first novel planning and trapping Eli Ever, his rival and former best friend. He is able to stay multiple steps ahead, even taking losses he knows will ultimately help him win in the end. Hell, he even lets Eli kill him so Eli will be arrested. He’s even got a trick up his sleeve to come back from the dead.
Similarly, as he looks for a cure for his ailment in Vengeful, he knows how to cover his tracks. He’s able to thwart authorities by doing away with anyone who can’t help him. Plus, it helps when they believe you’re dead.
That said, Victor doesn’t kill for the fun of it. He only takes lives if it’ll help him achieve his goals. If the victim could somehow hinder his plans, they have to go. He doesn’t take pleasure in killing, but merely sees it as a necessary evil.
He’s also incredibly ambitious. He continues in his quest to become an ExtraOrdinary because he refuses to let Eli best him. He chooses to write his thesis on adrenal glands because it’s a challenging topic. He spends ten years plotting his vengeance against Eli because he needs to mete out his own brand of justice. And he won’t stop until he accomplishes his goal.
Victor is only loyal to those who are loyal to him. If you turn on him, you are now his adversary. Case in point: Eli Ever. The two were best friends until Eli turned on Victor (albeit because Victor accidentally killed Eli’s girlfriend, but that doesn’t matter to Victor). Victor opts to protect Sydney and Mitch because they have been loyal to him. Now, against his better judgment, he cares for them. And you do not fuck with his makeshift family.
Victor Vale is a man out for his own interests, even when it hurts others. It’s a very special person that can become an exception. Just try not to make an enemy of Victor. Otherwise, it just might be the last thing you do.
Why Marcella Morgan Riggins is a Slytherin

Former mob wife and current HBIC, Marcella Riggins née Morgan is what happens when Slytherins get messy. She is driven by one thing and one thing only: pure, unbridled ambition. Marcella will do anything to take over Merit and make a name for herself. If you oppose her, she will destroy you.
Marcella climbs to the top of the mob in a matter of days. But she doesn’t just want to lead the mob— she wants to be known. Known, and feared. She runs a terror campaign against her enemies in order to impress upon them her power.
She’s also incredibly clever. She knows just what role to play when to get what she wants. She surrounds herself with other EOs of incredible power, enhancing her stronghold. She even outsmarts Victor at least once!
Marcella Morgan Riggins is a force to be reckoned with. She is the ending and the beginning. She is a terrifying Slytherin woman and I would let her step on me and rip out my heart.
For some, it may be easy to assume that every character in the Villains series by V.E. Schwab is a Slytherin. Not so. Out of all the big baddies, only Victor Vale and Marcella Morgan Riggins truly encapsulate what it means to be a Slytherin. As such, it’s no wonder the two cannot exist in the same world together. Victor Vale and Marcella Riggins are two powerful Slytherins who will, as the Sorting Hat says, use any means to achieve their ends.
