The Future of Strangely Pop Cultured

Blog Updates

Hey, sorry for going AWOL again. I was having severe back pain, but I went to the doctor, got me some meds and shots, and now I’m almost good as new. Except that then I immediately got hit with Writer’s Block. (Side note: is that supposed to be capitalized? Whatever, I’m doing it anyway.)

I have some partially completed posts I’m not feeling very passionate about right now, so those aren’t going up just yet. But I don’t want to leave you guys hanging. Therefore, I decided to let you guys know about the new directions I’d like to take my blog.

It’s nothing major, but a few changes and additions that I think will help breathe life back into this blog and inspire me to write more original fiction. Because that’s what I really want to do— I want to be a writer (NA fantasy or whatever you call adult fantasy for twentysomethings). The hardest part is finding that spark to begin.

The first change is simple: I will no longer be doing Top 5 Wednesday. This has been a meme I’ve enjoyed for years, but Sam of Thoughts on Tomes put it on hiatus for the summer. And it hasn’t been restarted.

Instead, I’m going to switch to Top 5 Tuesday, which is hosted by Shanah of Bionic Book Worm. I may not start right away because the next topic is favorite audiobooks (and I have yet to listen to one), but this will be the new weekly bookish meme on my blog.

The other major change is something I’ve already started. I’m going to start publishing some of my original fiction. A lot of what I’m going to start with are stories I wrote in college (some edited slightly), but I want to expand to brand new stories.

I’ve actually posted one already called “Nightingale,” which is a lesbian love story. Well, really it’s about fighting for your dreams but, like… it’s lesbians doing the fighting. In a good way. Just read it, it’s cute.

I’m hoping that by sharing some of my original fiction, I’ll get back into the swing of things and start writing again. Who knows? Maybe that’s how I’ll find my million dollar idea.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop on and say hi. Let you guys know what my plans are for this blog and assure you that I haven’t abandoned it. No, I’m in far too deep to quit now. I’ll catch you all on my next post.
