Top 5 Tuesday: Favorite Characters (P through T)

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Tuesday hosted by Meeghan of Meeghan Reads. It’s each blogger’s job to pick five book-related things (though you’re welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.

September is a theme month for Top 5 Tuesday! This month’s theme is favorite characters from A to Z. Each week, each blogger needs to name some of their favorite characters in alphabetical order. This week is for characters whose names start with a letter from P through T.

While Top 5 Tuesday is typically a book meme, this month I may be branching out to discuss some of my other favorite characters because, well, it’s my blog and I can do what I want. So there.

Padme Amidala

A queen at 14, a senator at 24, and a bad bitch at all ages, Padme was my favorite Star Wars character when I first got into the franchise. She’s intelligent and holds a fierce dedication to democracy. She has so much compassion for others, while also being a bad bitch. Padme Amidala is the mother of the goddamn rebellion and I refuse to accept the canonical end to her story.

Queen Sid

Is Sid a queen? No. But her mom is. Is this cheating either way? Yes. Could I at the very least have picked an actual queen? Yes. But I wanted to showcase a lesbian.

Who ordered the gender non-confirming lesbian who fits the “rake with a heat of gold” trope? It was me. And The Midnight Lie delivered. What I love most about Sid is, though she’s deceptive about her past, she’s quite earnest in her feelings. I absolutely cannot wait to read from her POV in the sequel.

Rin (Fang “Rin” Runin)

I’ve never seen a character who is simultaneously strategic and impulsive and then here came Rin from The Poppy War. She is ambitious as hell and willing to make sacrifices for the greater good. Though deeply flawed— or perhaps because she’s so flawed— Rin is a character you can’t help but love and relate to. As anti-military as I am, I’ll always root for this badass soldier.

Sydney Sage

I’ve loved Sydney for so long that I think she’s become a part of my personality. Her character growth from Vampire Academy all the way through the Bloodlines series is phenomenal. Sydney relies on her brains rather than any brawn, which was a rarity for YA protagonists at the time. And once she starts using magic? She’s unstoppable. Her romance with Adrian is still one of my top ships. Sydney Katherine Sage is the love of my life and I won’t hear a word against her.

Tessa Gray

While the readers of The Infernal Devices have long argued over whether Will or Jem is better, I’ve always been Team Tessa. She’s bookish and kind, her strengths found in her heart and her head. Her shapeshifting abilities are super cool too. Out of all Cassandra Clare’s heroines, Tessa remains my favorite.

Who are some of your favorite characters whose names start with a letter between P and T? Let me know in the comments!
