Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Billy of Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Reader that runs from Friday to Thursday in which bloggers answer a book-related prompt. It’s a great way to provide some insight into yourself and introduce yourself to some great new blogs.
What draws you in more: the book’s title, the book’s cover, or the summary on the back cover?
It depends on how I’m looking for books. Online, the thing that catches my eye is the book’s cover. In the bookstore, it’s the title that catches my eye because they’re usually shelved spines-out.
But the thing that truly draws me in and convinces me to read a book is the summary. If the summary sounds intriguing or like it may incorporate tropes or story elements I like, I’ll probably add it to my TBR right away. If it doesn’t grab me or reminds me too strongly of tropes or story beats I’ve read too much of, I probably won’t read that book.
This is basically a long-winded way of saying I do, in fact, judge books by their covers— and their titles— but it’s the summary that will truly draw me in. So, ultimately, it’s still the inside that counts.
What about a book draws you in more? Let’s discuss in the comments!

A book’s cover is everything for me. Then I read the first paragraph and a little of the middle pages. Often times, I’ll purchase the book off of those things. I know I should go by the summary, but if I like the first couple of pages, I’ll usually say, “Surprise me.” Most times I’m pleasantly thrilled; sometimes I’m sadly disappointed.
