As you guys have probably surmised, I’ve recently decided that The Killers is my favorite band. And so, because I felt like it, I decided to create a book tag based on them. I’ve taken ten Killers songs and made questions out of them. And… that’s pretty much it. So, here’s the tag:
- When You Were Young: A book or series you loved as a kid
The Cam Jansen Mysteries by David A. Adler. These were the shit in the second grade. I was so inspired by these books. I even started my own mystery series because of them. Granted, each was like a page long and they made no sense, but I was invested. And I have this series to thank.
- Mr. Brightside: A character death you’re in denial about
Fred Weasley from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. Except that he’s not dead. He’s not.
- Spaceman: A sci-fi book or series you love
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. I read this book a few years ago and it was hilarious. I need to reread it so I can continue the series. Top-notch humor.
- Somebody Told Me: A book or series you read because it was recommended to you
The Awakening of Ren Crown by Anne Zoelle. Technically I’ve only read the first few chapters, but it’s been pretty good so far. Book Twitter really seems to love it, so I definitely plan on continuing. Soon. I think.
- A Dustland Fairytale: A retelling you love
The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd. The first book in a trilogy (and the only one I’ve read so far), this book is a retelling of The Island of Dr. Moreau by H. G. Wells. It follows Juliet Moreau, the daughter of the aforementioned doctor, as she reconnects with a childhood friend and goes to the island where her father has been in hiding for years. She soon discovers he’s been continuing with the very experiments he was banished from England for. Meanwhile, a series of murders begins to take place on the island and Juliet won’t rest until she solves them. It was a pretty dark, Gothic read and I’m excited to finally get on with the rest of the series.
- Miss Atomic Bomb: An underrated female character
Cristina Rosales from The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare. She’s even underrated by her own damn author. She’s smart and caring, always striving to do what’s right. She doesn’t undersell herself or settle for less. She’s a good friend and a total nerd. She’s so genuine and badass and I love her to bits.
- Flesh and Bone: A character you would bring into the real world if you could
Kell Maresh from the Shades of Magic trilogy by V.E. Schwab because I would let him know how appreciated he is. I friggin’ love my son.
- For Reasons Unknown: A book or series you don’t get the hype around
All for the Game by Nora Sakavic. I liked this series well enough, but I don’t get why people live and breathe by these books. There are so many Huge Issues™ with them and they really try your suspension of disbelief (especially in regards to how the medication situation is handled). Also, people call Neil and Andrew’s relationship healthy because they value consent, but literally nothing else about their relationship is healthy. Also everyone nuts for Andrew as if he isn’t a dangerous criminal. Again, this series is fine enough, but people only go bananas for it because of the white M/M relationship and that’s just tea.
- Run for Cover: A scene or character decision that stresses you out
Did you mean: pretty much the entirety of Winter by Marissa Meyer? The concluding novel of The Lunar Chronicles is brutal. Pretty sure I started graying prematurely because of this book. Even on reread, this book is an ordeal. I love it but PHEW!
- Bones: A book quote you would put on your gravestone
“I open at the close.” –the Golden Snitch hiding the Resurrection Stone in Harry Potter. Because it would really unnerve people to walk by a grave and see it threaten to come back open. Or should I say promise…
