Favorite Friday is a brand new meme in which I discuss some of my favorite things. Some Fridays it’ll be based on a topic, while others it’ll just be about some of my recent favorites.
I grew up in the OG Pokémon generation. By that, I mean both the first generation of Pokémon and the first generation to grow up on Pokémon. That’s as OG as it gets. I watched Indigo League, Orange Islands, and Johto League. I played Pokémon Yellow and Silver on Gameboy. I had hella cards, toys, and merch. I was a stan.
I’m not saying I grew up in the best Pokémon generation, just that I don’t know anything about it past the second generation/Johto League. So, to me, they are the best. However, I’ve been playing Pokémon Go again so I’m in a Pokémon mood. As such, today I’d like to tell you about my favorite Pokémon.
You’ll quickly notice a theme among my top favorites. This theme is that they’re cute. Most of my favorite Pokémon are whichever ones are the cutest. If it’s not that they’re cute, they’ve got some other cool thing about them. Well, cool by my standards. You’ll see what I mean. These seven are my favorite Pokémon (based on nostalgia and my limited scope of canon).

Pikachu
I mean, who doesn’t love Pikachu? It’s an adorable little electric mouse with ears like a rabbit and a lightning bolt tail. Pikachu has always been and always will be the MVP.

Mew
As a kid, I loved Mew more than any other Pokémon. Not only is it powerful, but it’s absolutely precious. It’s this little pink, playful kitty cat that can fly. I even made up my own evolutions, Master Mew and Double-Headed Mew. OG Mew outsold Mewtwo.

Rapidash
This is where we take a small departure from cute to awesome. Rapidash is a flaming unicorn and I am all about that. The day I can finally evolve one of my Ponytas into a Rapidash is the day I ascend to the heavens.

Sudowoodo
This guy is a new favorite and it’s entirely due to Pokémon Go. It’s so fun to battle with because it throws rocks and kicks ass and then does a little dance. It’s so sassy and smug, I love it. I nicknamed my Sudowoodo Tiny Dancer and made it my buddy.

Cyndaquil
I love Cyndaquil because it’s this tiny little buddy and then suddenly flames shoot out of its back. It’s so cute and so dangerous. Cyndaquil is a volcano you can hug.

Eevee
Eevee is probably one of the most popular Pokémon and for good reason. It’s adorable! It also has some super cool evolutions (or Eeveelutions, as it were). My favorites are Flareon and Umbreon. Why? Because they are also the cutest. I love this rabbit-puppy with all my heart.

Mimikyu
I love Mimikyu because I feel for it. It disguises itself as Pikachu because its true form is ugly and it wants to be loved. That’s so sad and so relatable. I love you just the way you are, Mimikyu.
