Top 5 Tuesday: Authors I Need to Read

Blog Updates

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly book discussion with a new topic every Tuesday hosted by Shanah of Bionic Book Worm. It’s each blogger’s job to pick five book-related things (though you’re welcome to pick things from other media, if necessary) that fit the topic.

This week’s topic is authors I need to read. I had to narrow down my list because there are several authors I really want to try. I decided to cut a couple because I want my list to be diverse. I also only included authors with more than one book on my TBR.

  1. Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I’ve had Moreno-Garcia on my TBR since I first heard about Certain Dark Things. Gods of Jade and Shadow was one of my most anticipated releases this year. I’m dying to read about Latinx vampires and a Mayan-inspired take on the ‘20s.

  1. George R. R. Martin

That’s right, I have read a single word of A Song of Ice and Fire. I also haven’t watched Game of Thrones. That said, I want to read the series at some point. My whole family is obsessed and it’s time to see why. I’m just intimidated by the sheer length of the series and each book within it. Eventually, I will overcome my fear and take the plunge. I think I’ll pass on the TV adaptation though.

  1. Anna-Marie McLemore

I swear I’ve seen every single book of McLemore’s praised. Each one is someone’s favorite book. How can I not read books by an author so clearly beloved?

  1. Scott Lynch

I’ve been dying to read The Lies of Locke Lamora since I first read Six of Crows. An adult high fantasy heist story? Sign me up! I’ve finally got a copy coming in the mail, so I’m hoping to finally read it before the end of the year. And then it’s on to the rest of the series!

  1. N. K. Jemisin

The Fifth Season has been on my shelf for literal years. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, so why haven’t I read it yet? I don’t know. But I will. And I have no doubt in my mind that Jemisin will become a new favorite author.

Have you read any of these authors? Who are some authors you need to read? Let’s have a discussion in the comments!
